Memorial Day, Sacrifice, and True Freedom in Christ | Morning Charge Blog

A Morning Charge blog recap on Memorial Day, the sacrifice of Jesus, and what it means to live truly free in Christ by walking in His ways.

Welcome back to the Morning Charge Blog here at Branjo Collective.

Today’s recap is especially meaningful because it falls on Memorial Day.

Before getting into the heart of the teaching, we took a moment to remember what Memorial Day actually means. It is not just a day for cookouts, being on the lake, time at the beach, or enjoying an extra day off. It is a day to honor and remember the men and women who served this country and gave their lives so others could continue living in freedom.

Freedom always costs something.

That truth led us into the deeper focus of today’s teaching: the freedom we have in Jesus Christ.

True Freedom Cost Everything

Just as freedom in a nation came through sacrifice, our spiritual freedom also came through sacrifice, the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.

The message today centered on this truth: Jesus did not die just so we could say we are saved and still live bound. He died so we could be free.

Free from sin.
Free from shame.
Free from condemnation.
Free from darkness.
Free from the power of the old life.

But biblical freedom is not just freedom from something. It is also freedom for something.

We were not just set free from the old life, we were set free to walk in a new one.

Jesus Did More Than Forgive Us

One of the strongest reminders from today’s message was that Jesus did not go to the cross simply to forgive us and leave us unchanged. His death and resurrection opened the door for real transformation.

That means freedom in Christ is not permission to stay the same. It is not permission to live casually, compromise freely, or keep one foot in the world and one foot in the Kingdom.

Instead, the freedom Jesus purchased calls us higher. It calls us to walk in the lifestyle of Jesus.

What Does the Lifestyle of Jesus Look Like?

The teaching pointed to the fact that if we say we belong to Jesus, then our lives should begin to look like His.

That means growing in:

  • obedience to the Father
  • prayer
  • compassion
  • holiness
  • service
  • truth
  • love

Jesus did not just save us from something, He gave us an example for how to live.

That is what makes freedom in Christ so powerful. It is not just about what we were rescued from. It is about who we are now becoming.

Memorial Day and the Cross

Memorial Day reminds us to honor those who laid their lives down in service to others.

As believers, that remembrance should also turn our hearts toward Jesus, the One who laid His life down for our souls.

When we remember what He truly did, our response should be more than gratitude. It should be surrender. It should be obedience. It should be a renewed desire to walk in His ways.

If the Son has made us free, then we should live like free people.

Not bound.
Not half-hearted.
Not casual.
Not stuck in old patterns.

Free people walk differently.

A Few Things to Reflect On

Take some time today and ask yourself:

  • What has Jesus truly set me free from?
  • Am I still living like the old me in certain areas?
  • What part of the lifestyle of Jesus do I need to grow in right now?
  • Have I treated grace like permission instead of power?
  • What would it look like this week to live more intentionally as someone who has been set free?

Final Encouragement

Freedom is precious because freedom is costly.

Today, as we remember those who gave their lives in service to this country, let it also remind us of the greater sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

He paid too high a price for us to keep living bound.
He paid too high a price for us to stay casual.
He paid too high a price for us to admire Him without following Him.

So today, remember the sacrifice.
Honor the cost.
And walk like someone Jesus has truly made free.
